Meet Leaders: Martin
Jolley
Dates:
Sunday 4th January 2009
Why not blow
the festive cobwebs away on our traditional new years Sunday
Walk. Another varied walk with a woodland start leading to fine
panoramic views from the tops of the Roaches. And less mud than
last year – honestly !
When
– Because of the short days we’ll be starting
at 10am prompt
Where
– Same start & finish as last year. We’ll start from outside
‘The Ship’ pub (post code SK11 0QE) in the village of Winkle
(OS map ref 962652). There is there is ample street parking
close to the pub in this quiet village.
Getting there –
If travelling from Birmingham, (allow about an hour & a half
from the centre of Brum) the quickest route would be via M6,
turning off at junction 17. Take A534 to Congleton. Then A54
towards Buxton. About 3 miles after crossing the A523 turn right
(near Fourways sign) down a narrow & hilly lane to the village
of Winkle - about 1 mile & park near the Ship pub.
How far
– About 9 miles in total with the lunch stop at about half way.
Lunch
– Our lunch stop
will be Ye Olde Rock Inn (OS map ref. 013611 tel. 01538 300
324). The pub is in the village of Upper Hulme, just off the A53
Leek to Buxton road & about 4 miles north of Leek. They have a
wide range of pub-grub & some good beers to wash it down.
